Not at all worried about the virus where we are, but we wash our hands faithfully because its good practice. I hope you and yours stay healthy. I worry more about people who live and work in larger cities, but I suppose you could get it anywhere. I understand that most people would recover if that did get it, but still people are still catching regular flu as well. Winter is hard and seems to have more health scares.
We are getting on the train for Edinburgh this Friday tp have a weekend with some American friends. They were coming for his job meetings, but they have been cancelled- but because our friends have points, reservations and grandparents to babysit, so they are still coming. We expect the weather to be cold, windy and maybe rainy, so we will bring our “woolys”. I couldn’t survive here without both wool socks, wool slippers, and wool tennis shoes. Seriously. They make the biggest difference! We expect to tour the castle, the art gallery and the national museum (I thing its called) plus walk part of the “Water of Leith” the creek that flows through Edinburgh, specifically an old section of town that began as a German settlement, and still looks Bavarian. Hope the weather cooperates.
Last week I walked a bunch of miles in and around the town, it is good to smile and greet people, which I make a habit of doing. I also did 2 dance classes last week, which is normal for me. I often stay with the ladies for coffee, and enjoy the chatter. Despite being about 15 years younger, really I have plenty in common with them. Nice friendly ladies.
This week I had the chance for 3 classes, but didn’t feel up to the Monday class today, so I did a few walking errands, enjoyed a visit with the ladies, then caught a ride home with 2 that live near me. I knew they would worry about why I wan’t there. Guess I need to exchange numbers with them.
The daffodils are still blooming beautifully, as well as cowslips, primroses, hyacinths and grape hyacinths, something like forsythia, but green stems, not woody. I haven’t taken the time to research that yet. The flowers are very similar, but not the stems. Both are bushy climbers. I enjoy walking and snapping pictures of so many things, and I often engage with people out gardening, by showing interest and asking questions. Yes, I am that extrovert! How else do you learn if you do not ask! Well, of course I could read and research on the net. There are various ways! Haha.
Last week my “big trip” was a drive to a town called Yaxley, to pick up a friend, then we drove along the “fens” to the base that has the commissary. She shares a car with her husband, so this may help them, and it definitely helps me to have another set of eyes watching for the correct roundabout turn. We got there, got our groceries, then went through a bunch of villages to a farm market for a coffee and a sausage roll lunch. Then we browsed their store and I picked up Mother’s Day cards and a celeriac root. I know, the ugliest vegetable imaginable! It tastes like celery, so I made some fries with some of it, which were good, but weird with ketchup on them. Next I think I’ll cook some of it like potatoes with butter and salt. It is a large round thing, like a cantaloupe, so I have plenty left to experiment - or "make things” with the rest of it. Anyway, after lunch I dropped her off home, and drove home myself. My confidence improves each time I drive which makes me happy.
On Saturday we drove to a shopping area where I tried on a bunch of Wellies, as mine give me blisters and a bruised heel. The ones they had were all mens sizes, but it gave me an idea of what might fit. Then we went to a discount furniture store and got a cabinet for our upstairs hallway, where we needed storage, rather than just stacked bins. I do love organization stuff! So rewarding to make things orderly. I know Mom, I was once as messy as every other kid - but I did learn to fold EVERYTHING the right way. Mothers out there - just keep at it, eventually they will get it, or choose their own way of keeping things tidy - or not. But then it won’t be your problem. Eventually. Right?
Later that afternoon we went to another shoe store and I got some Wellies, then we went to the Ship (neighborhood pub)for a pint and a sparkling water. The TV’s were on in the other rooms, as the England/Wales rugby game was just starting. Then a nice walk home to make dinner. I know John likes to wander through town as much as I do, so we often will do an errand after work or on the weekend, just to soak in the atmosphere and charm, breathe in the clean clean air. Very nice! We watched a good part of the game at home, even though I didn’t understand it all that much of it.
So…John is making me a blog site on our website Newman6.net. At this point he will port over my weekly post- but after awhile, all back posts will be there for newbies to catch up. As always, happy to add people to the blog. Its not being publicized at all because this is just for you all. No ads, yay.
Have a great week loveys! Spring is right around the corner. Probably!
