The weather is notable for being glorious here. That is about to change, as there is supposed to be spring rain for the flowers and crops. It's time we had some rain, and it will make the sunny days stand a little more. Maybe.
PM, Boris Johnson is back from Covid 19 recuperation and will address the TV people on the evening UK update. It will be interesting to see if he shares his experience.
Anyway, I figure its high time I started to get with the British pronunciations of things. Sigh…but when in Rome…I believe people appreciate the effort….if I was talking to anyone…well, one of these days. Actually I do smile and kind of greet people who are out walking or riding bikes. Many say “hiya” which is a common hello, or “morning” pronounced “moornin”. I don’t know what they say in the afternoon, besides hiya. Other common differences are gar'age instead of garage’. Garden instead of yard, lorry instead of truck, holiday instead of vacation etc. There are a million more. I should have kept a list!
I’m coming to the end of my pattern test. I made 2 garments, pictures to follow once the pattern has been released. I enjoyed the process. It's different than testing American garments, as in the States they often set up a closed Facebook group so the testers can talk to one another, offer suggestions etc, and spread excitement about the coming release. I will suggest this, of course. Now I need to straighten my sewing room…and finish projects I was in the midst of when the test started. It was nice to have a project and a goal. I thought it would give my time more meaning after sewing a bunch of masks. Now I see there is a children’s cancer center in Scotland that needs masks for kids and parents. So I may have my next project decided(or “sorted”) as they say here.
These are views from my walks, down the lanes, through the fields, across the bridge, into town….all over!
So our vacay to North Carolina in June is still very much up in the air. I did go ahead and cancel my flight from Atlanta to NOVA end of May. Boy that hurt. I think the funds are available to whatever flight I book next time. The idea now…if the beach is open in June…is to fly in with John on June 5, grab his jeep out of storage, hug family and head to the beach. The bigger trouble may be that we can’t get back into the UK, but John thinks his boss won’t allow him to work from home for 2 weeks when we return. So….its still a ways out, so we’ll just have to see about that.
Is it just me, or do everyone’s days just run together????? The meme about 30 days in February, 45 days in March and a million days in April seems about right. Sigh. Folks we are all in this together, and need to cheer ourselves up however we can. I suggest Ice cream, personally! I also wear bright colors, look for wildlife like sheep, lambs, cows and swans. I try to enjoy all the birds which flit in and out of my garden. I’m keeping up with chores, re-organizing our stuff, you know, the stuff we kind of never get around to doing when our lives are busy!
The left picture is of a Red Kite, which is a small predator bird. They are common here, but I think their numbers are small and need to increase. The last picture is of a quintessential sponge cake with jam and whipped cream. I found “fine flour” at the store, so I bought it and made this to go on one of my bunny plates. Small happinesses. Its sugar free, by the way.
I read that the senior center in South Riding is going to be Zoom dancing this Wednesday! What a highlight for my week! Someone PLEASE send me the invite and password so I can join. I’m thrilled!
Stay well, stay confined , stay ready to rejoin society when its safe to do so.
