I know many places stateside are having a heatwave. Whew, I feel for you! Hoping for no brown outs, thunderstorms that cut electricity and the like for you all.
We are having a run of really gorgeous weather, 68-70 as highs. When there is no AC, this is great weather indeed!
I visited the lambs last week, and it was a sweet peaceful time. I bring my wellies and keep my beach chair in the back of the car, so I’m always ready. The mama sheep had been sheared, so they looked different, and I’m sure left so much better! They came to me when I made it over the fence. It made me feel special! Perhaps later this week they are going to move this group of sheep and lambs in with the rest of the flock…and they need help kind of herding the sheep to the other folk. Of course I vollunteered! I’ll tell you all about it next week! This fold has about 15 sheep in it, to merge with the much larger group.
In August John and I are taking a trip to northeast England. We are going to visit and hike some of Hadrian’s Wall, and then a few days later we are going to drive to the coast and see Lindisfarne, also called Holy Island, and then have a day exploring Bambugh Castle. Not everything is open, but we should get to enjoy long walks, see some Roman Forts, some museums, have pub dinners, packed lunches and charming vistas. Hoping for…less rain. But since we are driving we will have extra jackets with us. I’ll also bring wipes to clean rooms, masks etc. I’ll also bring snacks, water bottles etc for hiking.
We are still taking walks trying to get our boots comfortable, so I’ve been around and about in my boots. They already should be just fine for hiking. I think I’ve done close to 15+ miles in them. Here are some of the pictures from my walks: Back and forth to town, around the outside of the town, to the country park. I'm very thankful for the many ways to walk around town, especially during lockdown when we were not allowed to drive to a place for exercise. I’m not line dancing at all these days, just not feeling it. But I will get back to it when the classes start up in person…one of these days. I will. I miss it. But one of the reasons I miss it ….is because of the people! Friendship makes any kind of exercise so much more fun! Yep, its the people and camaraderie that I miss.
The last 2 pictures are of the White Swan pub in Woodnewton.Yes, it was started in 1790. HA, 2 other puds near us are earlier. So much age and charm! It's a 12 minute drive from home. During lockdown we ordered food and drove to pick it up once every week or 2. For a couple months that was the only way to get pub food. I enjoyed it…but what I really enjoyed was the drive, and not cooking! YES! Anyway, they are now offering food in the pub and the patio, so we enjoyed an outside meal. They have spruced up their paint, shrubs etc, and it looked fresh and welcoming. I know we will visit again!
I’m gathering books are supplies for a new craft called felting. There is dry felting and wet felting, projects like small animal statues and pictures, and various other arty things. Having access to loose wool from sheep, I’m getting ready to make something or other. HAHA, don’t expect much…I’m still at the infant stage of this craft. We’ll see! Its got to turn out better than my knitting and crochet. I am awful at those. Oh well!
We hear from kids and friends that schools this fall are grappling with the various choices of schooling. There seem to be no easy choices for so many. We join everyone praying for peace of mind, peace of choice, kindness towards other people’s choices etc. Very hard. Truly.
Hope you all are well, and looking forward. This year is one no one wants to return to! Parts have been terrible! Truly! Onward and upward!
