Morning all! Tuesday is the new Monday, right? I’m readjusting to an old type 2 med that I have a new Prescription for, but same med I used to take. I’ve had a few minor “lows” (hypoglycemia) in the adjustment, so passed on writing the newsletter yesterday. Sorry. It's a matter of the right snacks at the right times and more frequent monitoring on my part. I’m happy to have had a trip to the local doc for a checkup, and have the med I had run out of renewed. I just need time to readjust to it.
The doctor is going to send me to a consultant (specialist) for the lupus/RA and endocrine things. Those appointments will be in another month, but I’m getting connected, so its all good!
Thanks for the suggestions on the blackout curtains. I expected the blackout curtain project to take a few weeks, but really it took 1 day, plus an afternoon to tweaks. YAY! I was able to make matching openings in the blackout curtains and thread them into the same pinch pleat hardware as the regular curtains, and it makes these 2 bedrooms mighty dark, which you all will appreciate if you come and visit me in the spring, summer or fall, when the sun gets up wwwaaayyy too early!
We have been here now for a few days shy of 4 months and are really well adjusted, I think. We are still loosing or missing a few things each. John is looking for the pictures that always sit on his desk at the office, some shampoo he pre-bought. I’m missing some prescription driving sunglasses, and other things…that I can’t even remember, but hope to find. There should be limited places to look for things, because the home isn’t large, its just one of those things that is odd. I still need to reorganize 2 bookshelves, so maybe I can find some missing stuff there. I did buy a pair of regular sunglasses so I can wear my regular driving glasses under them, but its not a great solution. I have seen those glasses here in the UK, so I know they arrived. But we switched cars a few times since we have arrived, and I think I put them somewhere to “keep them safe”. I am my own worst enemy! Why didn’t I write myself a note, so my later self could find it??? Tiny problems, really! Tiny! I could even reorder the glasses from the states if I need to.
I brought over a nice pair of Wellies (rain boots) which I bought to match my raincoat, but I have found, when walking 2 miles or more, I get blisters. They are so cute though! So John and I will get me some better ones for park walking, when the weather is muddy…which is most of the time. But we had a wonderful 3 mile walk on Sunday afternoon. The wind was brisk, but the weather was cold and sunny. I took the pictures of the swans there at Barnwell Park. It's within walking distance, and its a charming park. The Beaver boys, and Martin kids have all enjoyed it. It had nice kids playgrounds and a pavilion to buy coffee and ice cream etc. but only open later in the year, not winter.
I’m really enjoying my line dance group and our coffee chats afterwards. They have kindly accepted me into their group, and I enjoy their inclusivity. The teacher is very good, too. The dances are much easier than the senior center in Virginia, but I’m ok with that. Great exercise. And I often walk, which adds a mile on either end- good warm up and cool down, I say!
I haven’t yet found my sewing group, but I putter in my sewing room, most days- altering and tweaking my own clothes and ready to wear ones that need to fit better. I’ve just about finished a knit sweatshirt with a cowl collar and kangaroo pocket. Its white camo fabric that Walmart was just about giving away last year. Who can resist? I also need to make a few baby things for a new friend who is expecting a baby this summer. I just need to print the pdf patterns and get to work. Sewing is my happy place, but you already know that dear ones.
In a week and a half we are taking the train to Edinburgh to visit with some Virginia friends who are there for his work meeting. We already have tickets to the castle on Saturday morning. I think we will spend time at 2 museums too. John is still trying on wool flat caps wherever we go, looking for the right color, style and fit. Who knows, he might find it in Edinburgh. If we have time, we might also climb the mound called Arthur’s seat. We will see if the weather is conducive for that or not. Guessing the weather will be much colder there, and maybe we might see some snow!
Stay warm my friends, it's still winter. Jenevieve says that the daffodils lie…she is probably right. They are in full bloom everywhere, but winter here is long. My garden is happy and the sun is shinning more directly now( by a little bit, really) and when not raining, but yesterday I could feel the warmth just a little, which was wonderful.
Also I”m looking forward to being in NOVA for almost a week at the end of May. I arrive May 30 and we leave for the beach on Friday, May 5th. I’m available to visit at places near my Mom’s home in Fairfax to meetup with whoever wants to visit. Also on Thursday during the day, I need a ride out to near Lovettesville to pick up John’s jeep, which has been in storage. We are taking it to the beach. My Mom is happy to do it with me, but its a long trip…I think this trip needs a stop for lunch, don’t you?
