Although this blog is private, it's ok to either forward it to people you think would be interested, or reply back with email addresses. Don’t just sign friends up unless they want to follow. I’m astounded anyone is interested, this is just my little thing. So I take a break from sewing, cooking and gardening once a week, to write what’s going on in my head and heart.
So it's been 5 months to the day since we arrived. WOW how the world has changed! I’d like to say that if we were still in our little corner of South Riding I would be able to get flour and chocolate etc….and take plenty of walks, but I know there are floating shortages everywhere. John has taken over all the shopping duties, as I’m in the “vulnerable category” because I take immune-suppressant drugs. Sigh. I’m the person who waves and smiles at trash trucks on an ordinary day. God help all the extroverts out there to survive. There are less people in the town of Oundle than South Riding, so it's easier to be isolated, probably.
We have a charming comfortable home here with a lovely garden and places to walk. We are still allowed 1 walk a day, which may possibly be taken away if EVERYONE doesn’t behave. Really I have no hardships. I just ordered a few garden plants, things like lettuce and small tomatoes, and a climbing plant. There are multiple lattices, and 1 has no plant on it, so goody- I get to choose one!
I’m sewing my “stash” with pdf patterns I have downloaded and printed out. YAY American printer run through a transformer. I’ve been terribly happy to sew baby clothes for someone we know having a little girl in July. John says
I need to make a quilt for her too….Sure, why not. Just waiting on divine inspiration as always before I start cutting fabrics. I have always done it this way. Colors, theme, whatever. And I know some of you all have little much loved quilts I made gazillion years ago. It's ok to throw them out or recycle them. Just don’t tell me, haha. Another sewing nerdy thing I’m doing is creating a sloper for myself. Its a pattern made without much ease(extra fabric needed for movement). I inputted a whole of measurements into a program, and for 6 pounds got a top sloper. I expect to sew it together this week, then tweak the fit till it's perfect. I don’t need a skirt, but when this company offers a pants sloper I’m all in. Self fitting pants is hard. I’ve made myself more than 10 over the years. Each pattern is trial and error. But cool, geeky, and sometimes frustrating! Haha. Frankly I just buy pants at Old Navy and have done with it. Yep! Sometimes I do.
Anyway, we started our confinement the day we returned from our trip to Edinburgh. It's been only 3 weeks, but feels like longer. We knew our last day there we were headed into a huge change. On the train watching the scenery go by, we didn’t know what would be different yet. But we knew it was approaching like a train coming in the opposite direction. I try to have a schedule, try out new recipes, read and pray. I’m hoping to start a puzzle I got at a thrift store. I got it maybe 2 months ago, but hoping to start it this week. Thrift stores, and almost all stores are closed. We haven’t found any take out yet. There are a few around though. Mainly Indian food.
Queueing is quintessentially British. They cheerily cue for anything. It's easy once you figure out who is the last person already in line. There is no queueing in my future unless I need to pick up meds. So I’m weeding, mowing and trimming the hedge instead. Mighty nice!
Stay safe y’all! They say the next few weeks are make or break in terms of the virus curve. A different kind of battle. Hoping for a cure, vaccine or something. Keep your chin up!
