Hi there dear friends! Hope June is playing nice! Seems like we are over the “peak” of the virus, but not out of the woods. Is that pretty much it? Downing Street(where the UK Prime Minister lives) is cautiously mentioning second waves and the return of the virus this winter. I sure hope not!
We are doing well here, still getting walks, gardening, and a little sewing in these days. I finished a baby quilt for a zoom baby shower last week. I also made little rice bags to prop up my phone and iPad. Free patterns online. I know the back of the blanket looks uneven, but its because the fabric color was stamped on unevenly in the factory, and I was using bits and pieces from my stash to finish it. The Mom wears bright colors, so the quilt all kind of make itself. HAHA over several days.
I met a new American family who moved in RIGHT before the lockdown, mid March, with 2 small boys. John and the other husband work together and figured out they were so close to us, in our neighborhood! So I went and introduced myself last week. Can’t believe they were in the house for 2 months before their shipment came. Wish I had known so I could have given them some things to tide them over. But they are young and resourceful! And they survived it!
The video John is making ... is still in process, but we FaceTimed a lot with family last week since we were missing the beach week with them, so its still not ready. I hope the suspense will make it worth it!
I had a phone consult with an endocrinologist last week which went very well. She needed bloodwork, so I drove myself to the local hospital for 3 blood tests over 8.5 hours. I spent the time between appointments either in my car reading or taking walks in the rain. I just couldn’t spend much time in the waiting room with so many sick folks. Results to come. Need to check American diagnosis of Addisons, and med doses. It's Kind of always something. I’m doing well, though! It was a tiring day, but I picked up dinner from our local “chippy” on the way home. We each had fried cod, and he had chips(fries) and I had a little dish of mushy peas. These aren’t mashed cooked frozen peas. They taste like split peas cooked. I love them! Its a taste I remember from childhood. Funny how a smell or taste can transport you back to yesteryear.
I’m still spending time in the garden clipping off the spent roses- maybe I should deadhead other flowers too. Don’t know what’s right.….I’m googling and winging it these days. So far things look really good. Still new flowers popping up every few days. This yard (Garden) has been a huge happy surprise that has given me both plenty to do, and plenty to enjoy! What grace during difficult times? First picture is a rose and we think a pigeon egg, the second is purple flowers and some poppies. Still trying to figure out the name of the purple and the last picture, with red flowers with a bit of white. I’ve been roaming the nursery locally to try and identify some flowers. I have a book, but it has 2000 pages. Hard to find the name- if you only have a picture. I need to get some pictures of local hollyhock plants I pass on my walks. They stand over 6 feet tall. I’m waiting for them to be fulling blooming, then I’ll get some pictures. I’ve heard there are often blackberries that come through my back fence, so I’m watching for them. On ice cream, in cobbler? YUM!
I’m glad to be able to post pictures in the blog. It was just a matter of learning how. Tomorrow I’m making dinner for a church friend who was in a bicycling accident, and won’t be cooking for her family anytime soon. Glad to help out!
It's good to get to know the neighbors, and help where we can. It makes the world go around, I think!
I’m too far away to drop off a casserole for you all, but I would if I could! You all are those special kinds of friends that I can’t live without! Take care of yourselves! Don’t take yourselves too seriously. Love you all!
