Hi there y’all! Starting week 5 of house arrest….feels like. John was home last week, so I tried to avoid him as he was in online meetings or doing training videos. We did take some really good walks as the weather was fantastic. I got to visit some paths I had not tried before. Since he runs many miles, he finds some obscure trails and foot paths, and we can walk them on his off running days. I still have this lingering ankle injury, so I feel better to stay around the 2 mile mark. I’d like to be walking 3 or so.
Luckily I was busy sewing, finishing and altering things, and making masks for people I know who are vulnerable, and people from base whom I don’t know. Some people in John’s office don’t have masks, so I made them some. Everyone on base must wear a mask at all times except going through the main gate. Those folks don’t have a sense of humor about masks, I’ll bet!
This is my kitchen window view.
I was able to get a few plants delivered and planted…squeezing them in as the garden is very full. But I wanted to add some veggies and a clematis(white abundance). That name sounds lovely to me. There are already at least 5 climbing clematis, but there was a climbing staff and no clematis, so I added one. It makes me happy. Guess something that had been there died- which I can’t imagine, or they tacked up another climbing fence and never got around to adding the plant. I’m happy to add my mark, and not just be a caretaker of the garden.
I also dug a lot of weeds out of the grass, and used my mower (which John named bubble mower because its incredibly tiny)! Even so, I can do both the front and rear gardens in half an hour, and that’s with strolling the mower from front to back yards. Though the grassy areas are small, its a job that needs doing! And I’m the “land girl”.
Land girl is a British WWII reference to girls who went to rural areas to help farm small family farms while the men were all gone to war. I just finished reading Alexander McCall Smith’s Good Pilot Peter Woodhouse. Land girls are mentioned. A very enjoyable read, as most of his are. I think I’m current on his Ladies Detective Agency series, and his Edinburgh series. Foyles War, which is a Brit. TV series has land girls show up from time to time too.
Several walks last week included adorable lambs and sheep. The walk was easy and took us to 2 fields full of sheep! I went back there this morning for a walk, and the sheep had all been moved to a much farther field. I’ll bet John can tell me which trail to take so I can go watch them at their new location. Its been a real treat! So Eastery!
Our lovely spring weather has moved past for a time, and its cold and very windy. I know the farmers are wanting more rain for their spring crops. You know how it is, its easy to want something different than what you have! I’m pretty content these days though. For the most part being on my own is not bad at all. I think I’m talking to myself a whole lot more though! Luckily- I agree with myself almost all the time, so this works fine! But I’ll be really glad when this all ends! Until then we will stay sheltered beneath he wings, and in the cleft of the rock. Mixing my metaphors- sort of.
I had a very good online consult with an NHS rheumatologist. She agreed to keep me on my 2 current meds for lupus, and we’ll do bloodwork in August….or whenever. I liked her very much, and was able to read her the letter from my rheumatologist to her, so she would know my history and details. I have an endocrine phone consult in June.
Hope you and yours are finding your own peace and happiness in this weird and long season. Stay separate and healthy! Leaving you with just 2 more adorable lamb pictures.
