Happy Groundhog week, and also Happy Anniversary to my Mom!
Yesterday I was trying to turn on our printer…and somehow turned off the wifi to the house…but I didn’t know I had done it- and sometimes we loose it anyway. So no newsy email yesterday. Sorry about you all having to wait an extra day…but you really didn’t want to hear from the “woe is me Jeanie” anyway. It seemed we were stuck without being able to access NHS health services because we didn’t originally sign up for any utilities in my name. John did change one to my name…but until we got the next snail mail bill…no dice. So frustrating…especially as I’m watching my prescriptions dwindle. No new meds since last October. I was able to collect a small stash of each because of a travel exception under Cigna.
Anyway, John went to the NHS website and found that we could show our tenancy agreement, which has my name and new address on it, even though am a “dependent” on it. Makes me feel like a kid somehow. Its been a long time, guys! So on Monday, armed with the tenancy agreement, passport, and paperwork, I went back and the sun was shining on me this time. YAY. I also got a nice receptionist. Double yay. John will do the same thing later this week and we will be "all in". Just in case you feel we are taking advantage to the NHS, the company John works for pays into it for us. Its not free.
John has had a bad cold so I drove myself to church Sunday, and only took 1 wrong turn, and it was minor. I’m getting the hang of it, gang! Still very nervous, but I expect that to lessen as I get more confident.
I also got a chance last week to be an extra in a British commercial that a friend was producing at a nearby pub. I mainly had my back to the camera as I chatted with others, whist holding my sparkling water. I understand as a background player, the 4 of us will be kind of fuzzy. Should be perfect. A anyway, we’ll see if my group makes the cut. HAHA
We still haven’t bought more bedroom furniture, and gave away all but the bed and mattress in Virginia. With the lack of closets we are still shuffling things around these days. That is actually working, but we hope to do the Ikea drive and get some kits to put together. Or so to an auction and get some used pieces. Luckily, the furniture we brought for the rest of the house is pretty much perfect. That’s more important anyway.
I’m still doing a lot of walking, resting, reading, sewing and jigsaw puzzles I find at the thrift store and on my phone. Still always on the lookout for interesting and good recipes, sugar free and low carb. I tried some triple malted seeded bread from the grocery yesterday, and while not low carb, the glycemic number was low enough with the fiber. It tasted pretty much like rye. I couldn’t really taste the malt. But it was good anyway with our chicken stew. Onions, leeks, carrots and garlic to make John better, mashed potatoes too. One of his favorites.
Looks like I have also found a dance class for over 60’s ladies. Its only .5 mile from home, not much parking round there, so I’ll probably walk. Its twice a week, about $5-6 each class. Not the super good deal I had at the senior center in South Riding, but here they turn on the fans when it gets hot. This is for you, Gail! Miss ya’ twin!
Next week I’ll actually wear some athletic stuff. Not knowing anything about this group I came dressed in real clothes. One doesn’t often guess the rules correctly, and it's easy to cause offense by accident.
We keep going back and forth, but its looking again like I may come to both Atlanta and NOVA before the beach week in June. I’ll keep you posted.
Everyone says it's been a rotten winter, complaining about the weather has ALWAYS been a thing here. But the lows are often around 30, highs in the 40’s, often rains at night, sprinkles in the day. Often dreary and cloudy, mostly always windy, sometimes sunny. But I’m loving it all. The air smells so clean and fresh here. Pretty special!
